HOW DO YOU RELAX IN YOUR SPARE TIME?

ZEKE LAM: A relaxing time for me usually consists of an outdoor adventure, such as hiking, with my wife and children. I also find going out for dinner with my wife to be a very relaxing.

WHAT IS YOUR MOST MEMORABLE GETAWAY?

ZEKE LAM: Our honeymoon is easily my most memorable vacation. Out of the country with my new bride was just an incredible adventure that I will never forget.

HOW DID YOU MEET YOUR WIFE?

ZEKE LAM: She is my high school sweetheart. I met her as a teenager, and she was never able to get rid of me!

WHAT IS THE FIRST SCRIPTURE VERSE YOU EVER MEMORIZED?

ZEKE LAM: I learned John 3:16 as a child when attending church with my grandparents.

WHEN DID YOU FIRST SENSE A CALLING TO WRITE?

ZEKE LAM: The latter half of 2008 was a challenging time for my family. In January of 2009 I felt a significant urge to write concerning what the Lord taught me in relation to submission. Despite the fact that this was the initial call to begin writing, I did not officially begin work on this first book until March of 2011. The delay was not hesitancy. I simply waited for clarity, the necessary passion, and God’s timing before setting to the task. I have always enjoyed writing, but never expected to actually publish a work!

WHAT WAS THE MOST DIFFICULT ASPECT OF WRITING YOUR FIRST BOOK?

ZEKE LAM: The writing process of this book was a joy. The Lord gave me the chapter titles and content quickly and I think the bulk of it was done in about three weeks. In this regard I was so very blessed. The hardest part was constantly making sure that I was living up to the level of submission I wrote about. I tremble to pen words that are not readily seen in my own life. (Because I hand wrote the script, typing certainly would have been the hardest part, but praise God my wife came through for me big time!)

WHY DID YOU DECIDE TO PUBLISH YOUR BOOK THROUGH BURNING LAMP MEDIA & PUBLISHING?

ZEKE LAM: God truly orchestrated and directed my relationship with Burning Lamp. Upon completing the manuscript, I began to research different Christian publishing houses. Days before I was to sign with a company, I shared through a phone conversation with Founder Brian Hume about what the Lord was doing with my life. I told him about the book and he shared with me about the beginning stages of Burning Lamp. Despite the fact that our phone conversations usually consisted of us praying about other ministry possibilities, it was obvious that God had placed us together in this moment for this task. Because I am the first author for Burning Lamp, I had no other feedback to consider. Looking back on it, had it not been for the up close and personal feel of Burning Lamp, I may not have even followed through with the process.

WHAT ADVICE WOULD YOU GIVE TO OTHERS WHO ASPIRE TO WRITE AND PUBLISH A BOOK?

ZEKE LAM: Pour yourself into it, realizing that the message on your heart may greatly impact lives around the world. While it does take work, quality writing and publishing may produce resources that will last for generations. Go for it!

In life there are seasons when we’re headed in the wrong direction as we meander aimlessly. A book anointed by the Spirit of God can be the necessary catalyst to jolt us out of our spiritual apathy. Furthermore it can invigorate us to move in the direction of His leading wholeheartedly. Hence a timely book is like a compass for the reader, echoing Isaiah 30:21—“Your ears will hear a word behind you, ‘This is the way, walk in it,’ whenever you turn to the right or to the left.”

When was the last time you read a book that helped you immensely in discerning God’s will for your life?
